15th European Youth Choir Festival in Basel
From May 5 to 9, 2027, the Basel region will once again host the European Youth Choir Festival. This time, the public will be drawn not only by the more than 50 concerts featuring top-tier children’s and youth choirs from across Europe, but also by various events organized by Swiss choirs. Registration for the «Sing Garden,» the «Schwizer Büni,» and the «Singplausch» is now open.
The European Youth Choir Festival in Basel attracts about 40,000 spectators. For the approximately 2,700 children and teenagers who take part, however, cross-border encounters are just as important as performing in front of a large audience. The festival has therefore developed alternative ways for Swiss choirs to participate. Starting October 1, 2026, the registration period will open on www.ejcf.ch/it/:
SINGPLAUSCH (2nd–5th grade of elementary school)
As part of a singing workshop divided by gender (girls’ director: Kerstin Saxer-Jentsch; boys’ directors: Andreas Wiedmer and Marcel Fässler), the children’s choirs are rehearsing the songs they will perform at the end of the day for the festival audience in the foyer of the Basel Theater. Girls and boys together: an exciting experience and a unique opportunity!
OPEN STAGE AT «SING GARDEN» (up to age 25)
Children’s and youth choirs from all over the world can sign up for a 30-minute performance on the open stage at the «Sing Garden» festival center, located on Barfüsserplatz.
SCHWIZER BÜNI (up to age 25)
This Saturday afternoon, in downtown Basel, the «Singe uf dr Strooss» event will take place. All of the festival’s international choirs will perform on four outdoor stages, while the fifth stage will be reserved for the most ambitious Swiss choirs from all language regions. Sign up now!
