At present, given the still too numerous uncertainties surrounding the global evolution of the pandemic and protective measures against the disease, it is difficult to envisage calmly the organization of a high-level international competition, based on the values of fairness, universality and quality. Even if travel conditions within Europe appear to be easing, it is impossible to predict how transcontinental travel restrictions will evolve this autumn. The competition can therefore neither guarantee the presence of all the candidates from all over the world, nor the presence of the jury members. Added to this are uncertainties linked to protection measures for the performing arts and the availability of orchestras.<br \/> To cope with these imponderables and to ensure the continuity of the values upheld by the Geneva Competition for over 80 years, the organization has decided to postpone the cello competition until next autumn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cello &amp; Oboe Competition 2021<br \/> <\/strong>The cello competition will be held in parallel with the oboe competition in autumn 2021 (exact dates to be announced). Candidates who have already registered will be able to reapply, even if their age exceeds the age limit set out in the rules. New registrations will open in September.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Events in autumn 2020<br \/> <\/strong>Despite the postponement of the Cello Competition, the Geneva International Music Competition is continuing its programs to support its prizewinners. The week of workshops scheduled for September has been transformed into the eWorkshop program, an online, interactive event offering a few weeks of professional training, coaching and initiation to audiovisual techniques. In place of the cello competition, the Geneva Competition will offer events open to the public as part of the authorized measures.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Due to uncertainties linked to the coronavirus crisis, the 75th Geneva International Music Competition, dedicated to the cello, will not take place this year.
