Et plus vous remontez \u00e0 travers les si\u00e8cles, plus les interpr\u00e9tations et les hypoth\u00e8ses sont vari\u00e9es, sur lesquelles reposent souvent de simples suppositions. Cela se produit moins avec Beethoven \u2013 vous pouvez donc vous sentir en s\u00e9curit\u00e9, vous pencher en arri\u00e8re et vous d\u00e9tendre.<\/p>\n<p>Grave erreur ! Ceux qui expliquent tout Beethoven \u00e0 partir de ses grandes \u0153uvres se sentent toujours dans le besoin de trouver une explication convenant aussi aux partitions moins grandiloquentes, et ils inventent des arguments douteux pour retomber sur leurs pattes. C\u2019est le cas notamment de la S\u00e9r\u00e9nade op. 25 pour fl\u00fbte, violon et alto, parue en 1802. Le genre et la distribution sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 curieux. Beethoven n\u2019avait-il pas syst\u00e9matiquement pr\u00e9par\u00e9 d\u00e8s son opus 1 d\u00e9j\u00e0 ses premiers quatuors \u00e0 cordes (op. 18) ? N\u2019avait-il pas depuis longtemps abandonn\u00e9 les traditions du 18e si\u00e8cle ? Pourquoi une composition sans basse ? Et pourquoi cette d\u00e9signation de tempo <em>Allegro d\u00e9sinvolto <\/em>(joyeux et d\u00e9contract\u00e9) dans la finale ? \u2013 Alors on a simplement dat\u00e9 la s\u00e9r\u00e9nade comme une \u0153uvre de Bonn, ce qui \u00e9tait merveilleusement pratique, mais pas tenable en raison de notes qui nous sont parvenues. On a aussi suppos\u00e9 que Beethoven voulait aider Giovanni Cappi dans sa nouvelle maison d\u2019\u00e9dition en lui proposant cette s\u00e9r\u00e9nade. Cappi aurait alors lui-m\u00eame invent\u00e9 le num\u00e9ro d\u2019opus lors de l\u2019impression\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Mais pourquoi Beethoven ne pouvait-il pas simplement \u00e9crire une s\u00e9r\u00e9nade, m\u00eame si dans d\u2019autres domaines, il atteignait des sommets ? La r\u00e9ponse se trouve peut-\u00eatre cent ans plus tard dans une lettre de Max Reger. Lui aussi, apr\u00e8s avoir compos\u00e9 un quatuor \u00e0 cordes aux dimensions symphoniques dans sa forme et sa texture (op. 74), \u00e9crivait ceci \u00e0 sa maison d\u2019\u00e9dition le 22 avril 1904 au sujet de sa S\u00e9r\u00e9nade classique op. 77a (de m\u00eame tonalit\u00e9 et m\u00eame distribution que celle de Beethoven) : \u00ab Vous trouverez ici quelque chose de tr\u00e8s l\u00e9ger, simple et m\u00e9lodieux [\u2026].
