Ils livrent leur travail complet et soign\u00e9 \u00e0 la date pr\u00e9vue, voire auparavant, et ils donnent l\u2019impression d\u2019avoir une vie parfaitement r\u00e9gl\u00e9e. Et puis, il y a ceux qui ont simplement toujours besoin d\u2019un peu plus de temps. On les traite facilement du terme p\u00e9joratif de procrastinateurs, mais il s\u2019agit aussi d\u2019une forme particuli\u00e8re de cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9, non pas qu\u2019ils savourent le charme du \u00ab dernier moment \u00bb, mais parce qu\u2019ils ont besoin de pression pour obtenir les meilleurs r\u00e9sultats. Des ouvertures d\u2019op\u00e9ra enti\u00e8res ont \u00e9t\u00e9 ainsi cr\u00e9\u00e9es juste \u00e0 temps en une seule nuit. Mais jusqu\u2019au moment final o\u00f9 tout finit par se r\u00e9soudre, il faut revoir le calendrier plusieurs fois, demander un peu de patience et pr\u00e9senter ses excuses. Beethoven n\u2019\u00e9tait pas lui non plus un compositeur tr\u00e8s ponctuel. Apr\u00e8s avoir d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00fb faire attendre son \u00e9diteur berlinois pour ses Chants \u00e9cossais op. 108, il a retard\u00e9 la mise au point de ses Sonates op. 109, 110 et 111 qui forment un groupe. Le 31 mai 1820, il annonce les trois partitions pour juillet \u2013 mais il ne se passe pas grand-chose. Et m\u00eame si son ami Franz Oliva le rappelle gentiment \u00e0 la t\u00e2che en ao\u00fbt (\u00ab il faut penser aux sonates \u00e0 envoyer \u00e0 Berlin \u00bb), cela ne l\u2019aidera pas beaucoup. Finalement, Beethoven sera contraint d\u2019envoyer \u00e0 son \u00e9diteur des explications \u00e9crites sur l\u2019\u00e9tat d\u2019avancement de son travail \u2013 avec des tournures de phrases qui n\u2019ont pas beaucoup \u00e9volu\u00e9 au cours des si\u00e8cles dans ce genre de situation : \u00ab Avec ces trois sonates, cela ira plus vite [qu\u2019avec l\u2019opus 108] ; \u2013 la premi\u00e8re est pratiquement pr\u00eate pour les corrections, et je travaille sans plus attendre aux deux autres. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019attente valait toutefois la peine. Schlesinger recevra finalement au d\u00e9but de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1821 seulement le mat\u00e9riel pr\u00eat \u00e0 \u00eatre imprim\u00e9, mais ces \u0153uvres, parmi les derni\u00e8res sonates que Beethoven composera, renouvellent le style. La Sonate en mi majeur op. 109 se distingue par son premier mouvement, qui n\u2019est pas seulement bref, mais qui s\u2019\u00e9loigne de la structure habituelle avec ses passages adagio tr\u00e8s imaginatifs, par son scherzo \u00e9nergique en mode mineur et en perp\u00e9tuel d\u00e9veloppement, et par un mouvement de variations avec plusieurs r\u00e9f\u00e9rences plus ou moins claires, et qui se r\u00e9v\u00e8le bient\u00f4t \u00eatre le final.
