S\u2019en sont suivies la roue et l\u2019assiette creuse. Pourtant, aujourd\u2019hui encore, l\u2019\u00eatre humain ne parvient pas \u00e0 \u00e9radiquer la faim dans le monde ni \u00e0 endiguer le r\u00e9chauffement climatique \u2013 sans parler de la remise en question de la science, \u00e0 la mode dans les salons. Cela est d\u00fb \u00e0 Epim\u00e9th\u00e9e, le fr\u00e8re de Prom\u00e9th\u00e9e, dont le nom signifie \u00ab celui qui r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit apr\u00e8s coup \u00bb. D\u2019ailleurs, il a \u00e9pous\u00e9 la belle Pandore \u2013 celle de la bo\u00eete de tous les maux\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Ludwig van Beethoven raconte une histoire un peu diff\u00e9rente dans sa musique de ballet <em>Les Cr\u00e9atures de Prom\u00e9th\u00e9e<\/em>, op. 43, une commande du ma\u00eetre de ballet italien Salvatore Vigan\u00f2 (1769-1821), qui apr\u00e8s de nombreuses \u00e9tapes travaille \u00e0 Vienne entre 1799 et 1803 avant de devenir directeur de ballet \u00e0 la Scala de Milan en 1811. Si le sc\u00e9nario et la chor\u00e9graphie originale n\u2019ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 conserv\u00e9s, les \u00e9v\u00e9nements mythologiques mis en musique dans une introduction et 16 tableaux peuvent toutefois \u00eatre retrac\u00e9s sur la base du programme distribu\u00e9 lors de la cr\u00e9ation : dans la lecture de Beethoven, Prom\u00e9th\u00e9e insuffle la vie avec le feu du ciel \u00e0 deux statues en argile, mais il est incapable d\u2019\u00e9veiller leur raison. Apr\u00e8s qu\u2019une voix sup\u00e9rieure l\u2019a emp\u00each\u00e9 de d\u00e9truire son \u0153uvre, il conduit les \u00eatres au Parnasse, o\u00f9, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Apollon, ils recevront non seulement la raison et les \u00e9motions, mais aussi le sens de la nature et de l\u2019art.<\/p>\n<p>Bien que l\u2019ensemble du ballet ait remport\u00e9 un grand succ\u00e8s avec 29 repr\u00e9sentations, il n\u2019a pas trouv\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9cho durable aupr\u00e8s des contemporains. En 1801, la <em>Zeitung f\u00fcr die elegante Welt <\/em>\u00e9crivait tr\u00e8s sobrement : \u00ab Je ne saurais dire si monsieur van Beethoven a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 obtenir ce qu\u2019un public comme celui-ci exige dans l\u2019unit\u00e9 \u2013 pour ne pas dire l\u2019uniformit\u00e9 \u2013 de l\u2019action. Mais il ne fait aucun doute que sa musique est trop savante pour le ballet et qu\u2019il ne s\u2019est pas trop souci\u00e9 des danseurs.\u00a0[&#8230;] L\u2019ouverture, d\u00e9j\u00e0, serait ad\u00e9quate dans un grand op\u00e9ra, et ne manquerait pas d\u2019avoir un effet significatif ; ici, par contre, elle n\u2019est pas \u00e0 sa place. \u00bb Et en effet, l\u2019ouverture est un mouvement presque symphonique avec une introduction lente et un long d\u00e9veloppement.
