Souvent, de simples canons ou aphorismes musicaux \u00e9crits \u00e0 l\u2019improviste donnent le meilleur aper\u00e7u de l\u2019environnement et du quotidien d\u2019un compositeur, m\u00eame si on les consid\u00e8re comme des miettes de son \u0153uvre. C\u2019est le cas de Beethoven. Parfois, il s\u2019agit de moqueries familiales (\u00ab la grosse et sa gamine ont triomph\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, un canon en trois parties sur la belle-s\u0153ur et sa fille, WoO 226), ou de la question du lieu o\u00f9 d\u00eener : \u00ab Messieurs, o\u00f9 d\u00eenerez-vous aujourd\u2019hui, au b\u0153uf, au cygne, aux trois hame\u00e7ons ou m\u00eame au bocal \u00e0 poissons \u00bb (WoO 221, 1re version du texte). Le d\u00e9part de Johann Nepomuk Hummel pour Stuttgart est plus s\u00e9rieux (\u00ab Ars longa, vita brevis \u00bb, WoO 170), et l\u2019apparition du compositeur danois Friedrich Kuhlau dans l\u2019un des livres de conversation a \u00e9t\u00e9 subtilement notifi\u00e9e par un motif B-A-C-H (\u00ab K\u00fchl, nicht lau \u00bb, WoO 191).<\/p>\n<p>Ignaz Schuppanzigh (1776-1830), qui avait cr\u00e9\u00e9 avec son ensemble presque tous les quatuors \u00e0 cordes de Beethoven, a re\u00e7u deux fois de tels courts messages musicaux. Et les deux fois, le texte rel\u00e8ve la forte corpulence du violoniste. En 1801, Beethoven, qui lui avait d\u2019ailleurs donn\u00e9 le surnom de \u00ab Milord Falstaff \u00bb, le traite de \u00ab crapule \u00bb, de \u00ab gros ventre de porc \u00bb et de \u00ab t\u00eate d\u2019\u00e2ne pompeuse \u00bb dans une blague amicale et moqueuse. Le son est un peu plus doux lorsque Schuppanzigh revient de Saint-P\u00e9tersbourg en avril 1823 et est accueilli par le canon \u00ab Falstafferl, lass&rsquo; dich sehen \u00bb WoO 184 (o\u00f9 les notes rapidement r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9es et li\u00e9es imitent le violon). Bien que Beethoven ait \u00e9t\u00e9 inspir\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs reprises par Schuppanzigh et ses camarades du quatuor et qu\u2019il ait apparemment pu essayer gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 eux des versions pr\u00e9liminaires en priv\u00e9, l\u2019amiti\u00e9 artistique a d\u00fb supporter quelques \u00e9cueils \u2013 entre autres, la premi\u00e8re notoirement rat\u00e9e du Quatuor \u00e0 cordes en mi b\u00e9mol majeur op. 127.
