Ripresa negli ultimi anni, questa tecnica di improvvisazione riporta in vita il contrappunto, spesso visto come un esercizio arido e scollegato dalla realt\u00e0 musicale. In questo manuale pratico di improvvisazione polifonica rinascimentale, Barnab\u00e9 Janin propone un approccio altamente pedagogico per esercitarsi progressivamente con nuovi vincoli, da soli o - meglio ancora - con altri musicisti, accumulando esperienza e imparando sbagliando. L'idea non \u00e8 quella di inventare qualcosa di inaudito, ma di utilizzare i materiali musicali dell'epoca per disporli e combinarli in semplici contrappunti (una nota improvvisata per ogni nota del cantus firmus) o \"fioriture\" (pi\u00f9 note improvvisate). In questo modo, l'apprendimento del contrappunto, che Sch\u00fctz paragonava al mordere una noce dura, pu\u00f2 essere assimilato come se fosse un divertimento, sia cantando che suonando su qualsiasi strumento antico o moderno, inventando canoni, gimeli o finti-bourdon, dal semplice contrappunto a due voci al doppio canone o ai florilegi a quattro voci su un cantus firmus. Il libro contiene anche un solido corpus di canti firmi tratti dalla plainsong, dai salmi protestanti e dagli chansonniers medievali e rinascimentali, oltre a una breve panoramica di alcuni elementi teorici e alla prefazione di Jean-Yves Haymoz, pioniere nella riscoperta di questa pratica musicale che ci riserva ancora molte sorprese.
