Sebbene egli accenni al fatto che, prima del XIX secolo, i musicisti erano soliti cambiare citt\u00e0 a seconda delle posizioni ottenute, sarebbe stato interessante se avesse esaminato i casi di espulsione e di esilio in seguito alle guerre di religione, per non parlare di situazioni come quella che port\u00f2 Johann Rosenm\u00fcller a fuggire. Con il risveglio del nazionalismo, non si trattava pi\u00f9 tanto di lasciare un sovrano quanto una patria, un cambiamento di sentimenti analizzato con finezza nel capitolo dedicato all'emblematico sradicamento di Chopin. Ma la maggior parte del libro si concentra sul XX secolo, che \u00e8 certamente il periodo meglio documentato e quello in cui gli eventi tragici hanno raggiunto un'intensit\u00e0 senza precedenti. Diversi capitoli raccontano gli alti e bassi della vita e della carriera di numerosi compositori d'oltreoceano, tra cui Bart\u00f3k, Schoenberg, Stravinsky e Weill, ma anche Eisler, Korngold, Tansman e molti altri, costretti a fuggire dall'ascesa del nazismo, dalla sua intolleranza, dall'antisemitismo e dalla guerra. Desiderati o indesiderati, perpetui o temporanei, felici, tristi o semplicemente indifferenti, vengono evocati altri tipi di esilio, tra cui quello interno vissuto da Hartmann e da compositori sovietici come Shostakovich e Weinberg, la deportazione in campi come quello di Terez\u00edn, terribile anticamera dell'orrore; l'isolamento volontario, in particolare per chi si sentiva estraneo a un periodo che non gli si addiceva artisticamente; la perdita dell'infanzia senza ritorno. Le modalit\u00e0 di questi esili sono diverse come le situazioni e le personalit\u00e0, cos\u00ec come le ripercussioni sulla produzione musicale, che vanno dall'ispirazione quasi inaridita di Rachmaninov all'impassibilit\u00e0 di Stravinskij. Affermato romanziere e saggista, l'autore ha una padronanza narrativa e costruttiva, uno stile piacevole e il senso della formula giusta.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text-section\">\n<dl
