Le Edizioni Fayard hanno appena pubblicato una monografia, la prima in lingua francese, dedicata al ruolo delle istituzioni musicali e all'attivit\u00e0 dei compositori durante il ventennio mussoliniano, in cui vengono ricordate anche le premesse storiche e sociali (unit\u00e0 nazionale ancora recente, dopo l'umiliazione dell'occupazione austriaca; nostalgia e desiderio di riscoprire la grandezza dell'Impero romano; perdita dell'Istria; controllo della Chiesa, generalmente favorevole al regime). Vengono discussi anche alcuni aspetti del fascismo, tra cui la propaganda, che ha plasmato in modo impercettibile ma profondo le menti delle masse popolari. In un sistema in cui l'iscrizione al partito fascista era praticamente obbligatoria per trovare lavoro, in cui il controllo sociale ed ecclesiastico era diffuso, annientando ogni possibilit\u00e0 di opposizione o resistenza, in cui l'individuo doveva scomparire a favore della collettivit\u00e0, in cui la nazione era eretta a mito, l'autocensura era una forma particolarmente perniciosa di repressione, mentre il compromesso e l'ipocrisia erano molto diffusi. Le arti godettero di alcuni anni di libert\u00e0 estetica e di scambi internazionali, al servizio dell'esaltazione della nuova italianit\u00e0, e persino della celebrazione morbosa e affascinata della violenza e del sacrificio, prima che l'irrigidimento del mussolinismo negli anni Trenta imponesse maggiore controllo, censura e autarchia, seguito dalle immense \"leggi razziali\" antisemite. Molti artisti e intellettuali sopportarono pi\u00f9 o meno la situazione, abbracciando persino le idee fasciste, prima di prenderne le distanze, almeno ufficialmente, al pi\u00f9 tardi dopo la caduta della dittatura - molti continuarono la loro carriera dopo la fine della guerra, come se nulla fosse accaduto. Gli autori di questo libro prestano particolare attenzione a decifrare il complesso e talvolta contraddittorio rapporto tra il regime e alcuni dei pi\u00f9 importanti compositori, e descrivono opere emblematiche pro o antifasciste (tra cui, nel caso di queste ultime, <em>Il prigioniero<\/em> Dallapiccola), per non parlare della musica da film, delle canzoni popolari e dell'educazione
