Romine esplora l'intera gamma delle nuove tecniche esecutive in ben 61 capitoli, la maggior parte dei quali brevi e densi, descrivendo ognuna di esse, dettagliando meticolosamente per gli esecutori il modo o i modi in cui possono essere realizzate, e accennando per i compositori all'uso che se ne pu\u00f2 fare, il tutto con pedagogia e senza nascondere i limiti, le difficolt\u00e0 o i problemi che possono sorgere. Ryan Romine, anch'egli compositore, dedica la seconda parte del libro al suo <em>Racconti fantastici<\/em>32 studi caratteristici per fagotto solo, con una variet\u00e0 di stati d'animo e un linguaggio facilmente accessibile, per lo pi\u00f9 tonale. Preceduti in ogni caso da note che ne introducono l'interpretazione, questi brani offrono l'opportunit\u00e0 di apprendere questi modi di suonare separatamente, rendendoli accessibili anche a studenti meno esperti, cosa molto apprezzabile, dal momento che l'apprendimento di tecniche alternative di produzione del suono \u00e8 solitamente riservato a studenti avanzati in grado di lavorare su opere complesse.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text-section\">\n<dl class=\"picture media photo\">\n<dt><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media photo aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.revuemusicale.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/03_crit_buch_Mettraux1.png\" alt=\"Image \" \/><\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text-section\">\n<p>Dopo una breve storia della famiglia allargata della tuba, dai suoi antenati (tra cui il serpente e l'oficleide) ai giorni nostri, passando per il cimbasso verdiano, i vari sassofoni e il sousaphone, il libro bilingue (tedesco e inglese) di Jack Adler-McKean si concentra principalmente sulle tube attualmente utilizzate nelle orchestre e nella musica contemporanea. Illustra i meccanismi con cui vengono prodotti i suoni, spiega i vari modi in cui possono essere modificati e rivela le potenzialit\u00e0 solitamente insospettate di questi strumenti, come l'espansione della tessitura nel registro estremo grave o acuto, o addirittura nel registro alto (suoni fischiati). Come gli altri strumenti a fiato, le tube basse e contrabbasso consentono l'uso di multifoniche, vari rumori d'aria, percussione di chiavi, attacchi modificati e microintervalli (facilitati su strumenti con un sistema di pistoni appositamente adattato).
