En raison des circonstances (Mozart \u00e9tait d\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 inopin\u00e9ment dix mois plus t\u00f4t), on a parl\u00e9 en 1792 d\u00e9j\u00e0 de la Triade classique, avant m\u00eame que Beethoven n\u2019ait d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 son propre style. Cette nomination impos\u00e9e en priv\u00e9 avant son d\u00e9part de Bonn a toutefois permis \u00e0 Beethoven de g\u00e9rer rapidement son propre h\u00e9ritage de mani\u00e8re cr\u00e9ative et ind\u00e9pendante, sans toujours se laisser influencer par un Haydn pourtant bien intentionn\u00e9. (Ce sera beaucoup plus difficile pour Brahms de supporter le fardeau que lui imposera Schumann lorsqu\u2019il l\u2019encensera dans son essai \u00ab\u00a0Neue Bahnen \u00bb publi\u00e9 dans la <em>Neue Zeitschrift f\u00fcr Musik<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Ce que Waldstein ne pouvait bien s\u00fbr pas savoir \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, et qui \u00e9tonne aujourd\u2019hui encore, c\u2019est que Beethoven a bas\u00e9 sur une \u0153uvre de Mozart son Quintette pour piano, hautbois, clarinette, cor et basson en mi b\u00e9mol majeur op. 16, qu\u2019il commence \u00e0 \u00e9crire \u00e0 Berlin au printemps 1796. Sa r\u00e9f\u00e9rence est le Quintette pour piano K. 452, que Mozart consid\u00e9rait lui-m\u00eame comme \u00ab la meilleure chose que j\u2019aie \u00e9crite de ma vie \u00bb. Il n\u2019y a pas que l\u2019instrumentation, inhabituelle pour l\u2019\u00e9poque, ni la tonalit\u00e9 de mi b\u00e9mol majeur, confortable pour les vents, qui sont identiques, mais c\u2019est le cas aussi de la s\u00e9quence des mouvements et du caract\u00e8re de la pi\u00e8ce. Dans l\u2019<em>Andante cantabile<\/em>, Beethoven rend hommage \u00e0 son mod\u00e8le : le th\u00e8me fait allusion \u00e0 \u00ab Batti, batti, o bel Masetto \u00bb que chante Zerlina dans <em>Don Giovanni.<\/em> Le fait que Beethoven ne se soit pas seulement permis des fantaisies dans les cadences de ses concertos pour piano, mais qu\u2019il se soit mis en avant aussi dans d\u2019autres passages, est rapport\u00e9 par Ferdinand Ries, \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un incident lors d\u2019une repr\u00e9sentation viennoise du Quintette pour piano : \u00ab dans le dernier Allegro, il y a plusieurs pauses avant que le th\u00e8me ne reprenne ; dans l\u2019une d\u2019entre elles, Beethoven s\u2019est soudain mis \u00e0 improviser durant un certain temps, prenant le rondo comme th\u00e8me, ce qui n\u2019\u00e9tait pas du go\u00fbt de ses accompagnateurs. Ils \u00e9taient f\u00e2ch\u00e9s, monsieur Ram[m] \u00e9tait m\u00eame tr\u00e8s contrari\u00e9. Car c\u2019\u00e9tait vraiment comique de voir tous ces messieurs, qui attendaient le moment de la reprise, mettre sans cesse leur instrument \u00e0 la bouche avant de devoir le reposer.
