I quattordici capitoli coprono una serie di argomenti, con esempi e aneddoti, e possono essere letti indipendentemente l'uno dall'altro. Incontriamo compositori che plagiano, parodiano o fanno pastiche, alcuni dei quali non esitano a spacciare una o pi\u00f9 opere per quelle di un collega pi\u00f9 famoso, o addirittura a sostenere di averle ricevute post mortem sotto la dettatura di uno spirito, o ad appropriarsi di pezzi altrui; musicologi che si fanno un nome mettendo in discussione, sulla base di vaghe ipotesi, l'attribuzione di questa o quella partitura; compositori fittizi creati da romanzieri, come il Vinteuil di Proust o il Leverk\u00fchn di Mann - ma anche, pi\u00f9 inaspettatamente, una voce dedicata a un immaginario Dag Henrik Esrum-Hellerup nell'edizione del 1980 della <em>Nuovo dizionario di musica e musicisti (New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians)<\/em>. L'autore sottolinea anche l'equivocit\u00e0 della fama di pianisti che non hanno pi\u00f9 l'uso della mano destra, di compositori la cui fama presso il grande pubblico si basa su un solo brano, o di musiciste considerate non in base alle loro capacit\u00e0 ma come pioniere nel loro campo. La nozione di opera d'arte viene esaminata anche attraverso apocrifi, incompiuti, opere pedagogiche, opere prime e quelle scritte utilizzando algoritmi di intelligenza artificiale. Un omaggio a questi corpi musicali poco apprezzati, questo libro esplora i vari percorsi alternativi che sono stati intrapresi alla ricerca di una certa notoriet\u00e0, identificando anche alcuni dei
