La traduzione di una lunga intervista al compositore da parte del musicologo italiano Enzo Restagno, preceduta da una prefazione del traduttore David Sanson e seguita da uno studio di Leopold Brauneiss, colma una grande lacuna. In esso l'estone racconta la sua vita, le persone che ha incontrato (il suo maestro Heino Eller, Nono, ecc.), la sua resistenza ai dogmi estetici e il suo percorso interiore: pur avendo iniziato la sua carriera di compositore sotto l'egida delle avanguardie (serialismo, uso del collage di elementi della musica barocca), sent\u00ec ben presto di aver raggiunto un'impasse. Convinto di non poter andare oltre con il materiale musicale che utilizzava, come saturato dall'abbondanza di mezzi, P\u00e4rt smise momentaneamente di comporre e si mise alla ricerca di una linea musicale semplice che vivesse e respirasse internamente. La scoperta del canto gregoriano, il cui studio \u00e8 paragonato a una trasfusione di sangue, e la riflessione sugli inizi della polifonia gli permettono di trovare uno stile che d'ora in poi sar\u00e0 inseparabile dalle sue nuove opere, che egli chiama \"stile tintinnabuli\". Questo stile \u00e8 caratterizzato da una sorta di tensione tra una o pi\u00f9 linee melodiche in libero movimento e le note principali delle armonie dello stesso modo, in un'altra voce o distribuite su pi\u00f9 voci. La sua prima opera in questo stile (<em>Per Alina<\/em>Solo gradualmente si convinse del nuovo stile che aveva appena inventato. In breve tempo, scrisse opere pi\u00f9 importanti come <em>Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten, Tabula rasa o Passio<\/em>\u00c8 una musica in cui il silenzio \u00e8 essenziale quanto il continuum del suono. Lo studio approfondito e informato di Brauneiss, intitolato \"An Introduction to the Tintinnabuli Style\", fornisce una descrizione precisa delle regole che governano la creazione di questo mondo sonoro e il suo successivo sviluppo. A met\u00e0 strada tra la determinazione e il caso, al tempo stesso minimale e complessa, frutto di una rigorosa osservanza di regole astratte ma che attrae pi\u00f9 l'orecchio che l'intelletto,
